Pranam. Its been three weeks since the last issue of the Gazette. In the previous two issues I had mentioned about the impending changes in organization and functionality of JainList. JainList has gone through two transitional phases in its lifetime of around five years. In its intial growth phase I had introduced an additional moderator, Mr. Arthur Gregory who shared the responsibility of taking part in discussions. That was the time JainList was leaving its past as a small discussion list behind. When JainList was becoming a large list characterized by hundreds of members and high traffic it entered its second phase of transition. Based on the needs of the hour one important change was implemented - that of making JainList moderated. In addition to that to share the responsibility of clearing the messages and keeping the quality of messages being passed high, two new moderators were added. Shri Manish Modi, Mumbai and Shri Hitesh Mehta, Bangalore volunteered and needless to say JainList made a successful transistion into this phase of high growth without loosing its focus and quality of discussions. The results are there for everyone to see and experience. Currently JainList is the largest discussion forum in the world on Jainism. We are moving into phase where we will soon be having membership strength well into the thousand. This Very Large List phase has its own peculiarities which we will discuss some other time. We are already into the transitional stage. To make yet another successful passage I propose the following changes. After discussions with fellow moderators on the same I invite open discussion on the changes mentioned. 1. Single point of moderation (In place of three right now) 2. Single Topic thread running at a time 3. Moderators for different "Types" of JainList members 4. Honouring and Recognition of Knowledgeable members In the third point, "Types" of JainList members refers to different segments of members viz. Scholars, Novices, Non-Indians, Students etc. These are some of the basic changes. I request all members to give a moment of their time in providing feedback on what is it that they like about JainList and what would they like to change in it. It is only feedback from members that would help us in making it the best and achieving our goal of 'Learning More about Jainism'. Jai Jinendra.
